I don't mean to be a killjoy but these discussions about lyrics do my head in. It's all subjective to that point until it's just plain obvious. For instance " f**k me and marry me young" is exactly what it says, some sort of ( to borrow an Americanism because they always sum these things up better) trailer trash deal going on. Flood I & II are obviously about the break-up of an already doomed relationship, due to her spiritual poverty. She's pissed off, ie. didn't see it coming but being one chakra short of a tree she wouldn't would she ?. He's pissed of because he still finds her beautiful but, alas, empty. ( Mercifully no ones mentioned Jihad ( splutter) or Spellbound (snigger).) There's a drugs subtext and an allusion to the downside of fame. At least most people here don't give the impression they'd like to splice off the top of Eldritch's head just to get a better look, for that I, for one, am grateful.
Furthermore there's a lot of "oh this lyric is a paraphrase of T.S Eliot and this lyric is a version of blah , blah ( insert some academic bloke )". According to some Eldritch never had an original thought in his life. Are we sure about this ? |

For my part, I think Karin's got a point...
It's all down to one's own interpretation...even if a songwriter means one thing, if it 'means' something different to the listener then so be it! I bet each and every one of us has a slightly different take on all of Eldo's songs, and they're better for it!
But what exactly DOES "F**k me and marry me young" mean??
I've always wondered... _________________ Amused to death... |

Ahaaaaaaaa!
It all makes sense now(!)
I never wore my 'F**k me and marry me young' t-shirt...sadly...
Never dared...
This was sort of around the time when people were getting arrested for wearing that Inspirals 'Cool as f**k' t-shirt
Shame!
Now I see lickle kiddies wearing bl**dy hooded tops saying 'People=s**t" - when they're with their parents!!!!! My, How Things Change... _________________ Amused to death... |

karin > I just reckon it's interesting to hear other peoples' interpretations of the lyrics. I wouldn't say anyone "knows" what's meant by a certain line/song either, but I like knowing what other people think about them. _________________ the only thing to fear is fear itself |
