The Sisters Of Mercy, led by founding member Andrew Eldritch, will finally perform in New Zealand at Auckland’s Powerstation, Thursday, September 22nd as part of their 30th Anniversay Tour. The 13th Floor caught up with Andrew and found the outspoken musician to be as feisty as ever.

You'd think they could have found a picture more recent than 20 years old...
This is a top interview!
is on great form - sounds like he actually likes talking to the interviewer, that he's interested in talking about what's going on - it's a conversation rather than the monologues, the "why are you still asking me these boring questions, why can't why talk about Hegel instead?" Wondering whether they just got him on a good day or whether he's mellowed somewhat. And good to hear that he still has a cat.
Either way - thanks for posting! _________________ "I won't go down in history, but I probably will go down on your sister."

Indeed. I wish he would make venue security aware of this before gigs, it would certainly avoid the unnecessary complications that so often need to be navigated. |

I had give my camera to deposit for "i have no problem with youtube" policy, day after that i heard that band allows to take inside camera that have no more that 5mega pixels and i can take pix only during first 3 songs. But maybe that policy have to be taken literally. _________________ "There is only the slightest movement of the fingers that makes the v-sign different from the Nazi salute. Always watch that."

I know, after all i've been on few gigs. That's why it suprised me, esp when i had rather cheap camera. But maybe it was just problem with understading of this particular guy from security because he looke on camer (Nikon coolpix 5) and said: 'it's fine'. _________________ "There is only the slightest movement of the fingers that makes the v-sign different from the Nazi salute. My thoughts exactly: that's all there is. In this interview the question is answered so straightforwardly and coherently that no more explanation should be expected. Truth is a funny thing, it's usually too obvious and too simple for us to acknowledge it. |

Great interview - reminds me of the on-stage banter of old ...
A bit worried about the "I don't think we're going to have another birthday because..." part.
And he said it twice - first time interrupted by the cat, the second time by the interviewer.
Anyone got ideas on what the subordinate clause may have contained
(speculation on this could replace the endless "why no new album" threads !) |

| I suppose that maybe it's just because 30 is already a big age for a band, and in a certain age it's better to just have fun everyday than remember about birthdays. Enjoying here and now is the right thing to do at any age, and a person (or a band) who is young at heart doesn't worry about the passing of time. But the passing does affect things, much as we may hate it time goes on and it never goes back, and this is why in a certain age birthdays may have a tendency to bring nostalgic feelings, to concentrate more on past than future, and to try too hard to sum things up or prove something. As result such birthdays can be more pathetic than jolly, which kinda contradicts the point of a birthday party, doesn't it. This is how I see it, and I hope that this is what he had in mind too, more or less. |
