Finally a clear picture of 80s DR AVALANCHE

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

So this was after all the mystical Oberheim DMX they programmed for FALAA's recording sessions, funny that Wayne's carrying it like a baby, looks like the thing had already become somewhat of a shaman for the band with the sole purpose (apart from drumming duties) of conducting the girls' speed rituals & other debauched practices towards the occasional spiritual jerk-off tunes which all the sisters' songs eventually came to be. What do you think, man?

Von looks a bit like a full-on bald version of Mr. Burns on that one. Scary how skinny he's become! But then again it'd be fair to assume that all that unending speed consumption should've affected his health to a certain extent anyway, hope he's still digging the chicks though ;D

Yikes. All of sudden Fat Eldritch (which period was that from recently?) seems positively reassuring.

And what the Effing Christ were all those modules and cables about - they're a band, not Apollo m*****n control..

Possibly from the sound-check then?

So they don't use the goold old akai hardware samplers anymore? I always thought they used the notebooks basicly as a sequencer for the hardware samplers (1x) browsing through the web (1x) and watching porn (1x) = 3 notebooks in total.

IIRC Andrew always seems proud about using as much hardware for live gigging as possible and mocking about other bands who tends to cut corners there. I know that there's no real advantage/reason for using hardware samplers quality wise but still I do appreciate the effort that comes along if you stick with these old gears since almost every nowadays kid can open his notebook and play a few sounds (as for the sisters you don't really need to start with a software that's more complex than fruity loops wich is pretty easy to handle^^). But if you like to operate this old stuff you'll need to know more about MIDI, SCSI and operating the sampler itself - I find none of that really intuitive to handle, that's why I'm having an Akai S3000XL as a dust collector standing here.

they always used to use very old, very elaborate hardware that was always breaking down

basically, it was stuff andrew was comfortable using, so he ensured they kept it

however, over the last couple of si has convinced him to move stuff gradually to a more portable solution, hence the mac book pros.

presumably this is also why nurse is pretty much a permanent fixture on stage with them these days... ?
