Re: Gothenburg, Mudd Club 15.05.85 Video snippet
I noticed that, looks like Von got a bit bored by it and stomped off too. Cheeky remark to open Train too. Aye, that was the bit I wanted to see, as from his comments it was clear that he was getting fed up with Wayne hogging the limelight. I wrote about it a few years back on my blog piece on this...

Re: Gothenburg, Mudd Club 15.05.85 Video snippet
Just finished watching this. Hat guy aside, this is probably better than Wake for me. Wake is too pretty, too polished, has too much flash and gizmos, and I'm not a fan of that big boomy sound others seem to love so much. This one does it better.

Re: 1984 Peel Session on Spotify
Is it just my copy or is there little to no top end on the 84 session? The 82 & 83 are lovely and crisp, but the 84 one seems to be quite dull in comparison It's not just you, and I've noticed this on '84 from other sources too. The top end is actually there, it's just seriously muted by comparison...

For me it was always about the extras. The two 7" mixes and whatever else it might have been possible to rustle up.

Likewise 7 Digital and the other usual download sources. Very nice to finally have them in lossless formats.

Likewise elsewhere in the EU.
I assume 1982 Peel will be along to complete the set soon enough.

Re: Gift reissue plus extras
This was announced what, 15 months ago? Can anyone vouch for their track record with other releases? Twitter feed has bits about Killing Joke, Peter Hook, etc. Still think that if this has to go through AE, it's never going to happen. I don't think he's been behind any re-release of material? CD an...

I remember it from other interviews around this time too, but I can't cite a specific reference. It does indeed seem to be a VT-era construct though.

There was also the famous Ben Gunn incident, so Ben was also doing it for a time.

You can hear this on some recordings - the tape hiss kicks in just before the Doktor starts. It's hilarious.DJElectricDaddy wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 02:44Also....they use a Tascam Portastudio cassette to run the Doktor at live shows?? WTF!, That’s crazy, can you imagine. A different tape for every song?

Re: Why did they use an Oberheim drum machine for FALAA and not the old boss and who did that?
From Wayne's book: Flushed with the advance from WEA we’d gone out and bought ourselves a new Dr Avalanche, our drum machine to the uninformed, and it was on this tour we started using it in place of the less reliable cassette porta-studio that we’d used until now to run the drum tracks. The Oberhei...

Re: Why did they use an Oberheim drum machine for FALAA and not the old boss and who did that?
I had a quick look through WFAW as well, but the only reference to the DMX I can find is on page 197 and is not relevant to the question of why they bought one. Not having an index nor an electronic copy does mean that I could have missed other references though. It's also worth noting that perhaps ...

Re: Why did they use an Oberheim drum machine for FALAA and not the old boss and who did that?
According to Wayne's book, the band bought it using their advance from WEA, and it was due to Wayne's experience of programming a DMX with Dead or Alive that they chose that specific model.

I don't recall seeing that at the XXX show at the Poly, but fire-eaters, filmic delights, postcards and buns can be so distracting. They didn't have them in Leeds in 2011 but they appeared at the Roundhouse show later that year. They may have had them in Glasgow as well, but memory fails I'm afraid...

Re: Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase
As should be clear from Mark's Quietus pieces, he doesn't mess around. When he delivers, he delivers. I know as Sisters fans we're used to unfulfilled promises and whatever meagre crumbs we do get being flawed, but in this case we should feel that we're in safe hands.

Yes indeed, as well as a La Costa Rasa album. In fact that one's interesting because of another Sisters-family connection: "recorded by Claire Shearsby..."

Re: Paint My Name In Black and Gold: The Next Phase
The thing with WFAW is that we didn't see the long drawn-out process that came before. That we didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't exist, and the book didn't just drop out of nowhere. 2 years so far for PMNIBAG is small beans by comparison.

I'm enjoying the idea of
getting sufficient royalties from this that he can put off releasing anything himself for a few more decades. I look forward to hearing it among the cheesy dancefloor stuff at a party sometime soon.

I'd almost forgotten about Rose of Avalanche. I don't consider them as blatant copycats as others, although there is at least once instance where their own mothers wouldn't be able to tell them apart - check out the intro to LA Rain and tell me that's not the Sisters take on Emma. https://www.youtub...

Re: Bands heavily influenced by the Sisters
Rosetta Stone got a bit of stick for it back in the day as well: I guess copying the typeface and layout of the records will do that. Alien Sex Fiend did a fantastic pastiche of the layout on their Smells Like... single: "A Merciful Relief, rise up and wipe yer bum". Extra marks for ripping off art ...
