Re: Is Andrew Eldritch a good role model?

Them clogs; remember the NMA formation stomping team going full-on one night at a gig. Sounded like a genuine attempt to break through the floor. AE influence? Well, mid-80s, the curtains in the rented house were permanently closed, a la Village Place, but the speed habit was more John Cooper-Clarke...

Used to have a Jesus loves the Sisters badge in the 80s, but never saw a t-shirt anywhere

Brixton academy? Went to this. Kingston Poly the day after, then Hull on the Friday. Busy old week. Pubs round Brixton were interesting

Can remember talking to Mark after a Sisters / Smiths gig and he mentioned that there had been some unfavourable interaction between the two leading men.

Can't help with the set list here, but I'm 95% certain this gig was a Friday, not a Monday. I'll come back on and apologise if I'm wrong.

A night spent in Sheffield bus station is not something I'd recommend to any gig-goer, however battle hardened

Might be wrong on this and I can chase it up if anyone's interested, but I'm fairly sure that KG relocated from Brid to the Grove Road area of Wakefield in the mid-1980s. No idea where he is now or what he's doing.

Steve Watson (Winker)

Just read elsewhere that former Sisters roadie / driver, Winker has passed away. Anybody able to confirm/add to this?

Didn't know him very well, but I remember him as a right enough lad. Mates with Jez and Danny H as I recall.

My first Sisters gig.

Not sure if it features on the live tape, but at the end I'm sure Eldritch muttered "Come to The Gun Club for a surprise"

Which of course we did. And weren't surprised by the support band.

Fair point; remember setting off about 2am, so they could have started playing gone midnight.

That Electric ballroom sketch is only half the story. They supported Virgin Prunes at this, then did a late headline show at the Camden Palace.

Mad day out all round. Dozen of us in a van from Wakefield. Got home about half eight the following day.

"There's been references in the past to Andrew carrying a steel bar up his sleeve just in case he needed it" He once got chinned in the Warehouse by half of the Leeds 80s electro-pop duo, Vicious Pink. I think it involved him paying too much attention to the other half of the same electro-...

Yesterday was a missed opportunity, the Sisters have played many gigs on the 29th June. As for today, the Sisters played in Kingston (South West London, not Jamaica) - https://sisterswiki.org/Thu,_30-Jun-1983 , and then this date remained a gig free zone until 2006, when they played the Festival of...

Mark's a big lad, but not a giant. Whilst he's always been an absolute gent whenever I've been around him, I've also heard some (unverified) tales and I really wouldn't mess with him.

Craig just didn't give a f**k about anyone who wanted it. Straight into that wanker at the Peterborough gig in 83

A few comments if I may. That's probably the best, most accurate piece relating to that particular Sisters era that I've ever read. Easy to over dramatise, but it looked a bit dodgy for a while after that Peterborough gig; there were a few of us down from West Yorks and it looked at one point like t...

Good piece. I think there was also, at one time, a notion that the other three get shut of Eldritch and carry on without him.

I'm completely out of touch on this, but I'm guessing you're referring to the time, late 90s, when Eldritch began making noises about him and Mark working together again?

Think Mark was happy with the idea but AE didn't follow through with it

That bit about him being good with the fans; he was a bloody diamond. Guest lists aplenty and he'd always get you a beer from the rider if you'd travelled a long way. Absolute gent

Wasn't at the Birmingham gig, but The Smiths supported The Sisters at Brixton and ULU in 1983. I was at both of them, but didn't see The Smiths play at ULU.

Could be wrong, but I always assumed, given the lack of musical similarities, that it was some sort of arrangement set up by Rough trade

Except that Jez and Danny were from Leeds and Merb was from Wolverhampton...sounds like it might have been mid/late 83, or possibly Tin Can club. I was at the TC gig, but as it was 24+ years ago...
