Your 5 favourite songs ever (non-Sisters)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just list the 5 non-Sisters songs of which you say: YES!

Let me start this off with:

-David Bowie - Heroes
-Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
-Visage - Fade To Grey
-Blondie - Accidents Never Happen
-New Order - Ceremony
Trying is the first step towards failure

Some good tunes in there. Ok, let me try. In no order whatsoever:

-Accept - I Don't Wanna Be Like You
-Blitz - Never Surrender
-Imperiet - Var E Vargen (swedish, now split up band with the somewhat famous Thåström)
-Prince - When Doves Cry
-Nazareth - Heart's Grown Cold

Disclaimer: this list would probably look different tomorrow, it's only what I'm in the mood for right now. I mean there's SO many good tunes out there, and also SO many Sisters songs, as you all know. More, When You Don't See Me and I Was Wrong all fit on this list atm.

For me it's impossible to do a top 5 songs. I think I have a top 500 list on Spotify.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Mercy Seat
Patti Smith - Pissing in a River
The Gun Club - Mother of Earth
Dune Messiah - What You've Become
Svart Katt - Oändligt Mörker
Burning 'cross the breeze.

Haven't seen this topic on Heartland before so thought I would add my tuppence worth ;D

Life - Des'ree

My Humps - The Black Eyed Peas

Baker Street - Undercover

A Little Bit More - Dr Hook

It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls

All of these songs mean so much to me. If only the Sisters had covered each of these wonderful songs in their own inimitable way, well, the world would be different, that's for sure!

You are all so right when you say that naming just 5 is impossible. When I rethink today (being in a definite metal mood), I'd come up with 5 completely different songs:

Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God
Accept - Princess Of The Dawn
Kataklysm - Crippled And Broken
Dimmu Borgir - Alt lys er svunnet hen
Bolt Thrower - The Killchain

(I promise I will not post again on this topic)

Did a Spotify playlist of the songs that are mentioned thus far:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4cYYP ... 5ayh7WqxzL

These are however not on the list since I could not find them:

Kutan: Men Without Hats - Security

EmmaPeelWannaBe: their fourth album - EATB (whole album...)

limur: Goodnight (Good Riddance) - Blyth Power (Steven Cooper and The Charlies cover)

Chaotican: Skipped Ultravox since it was the last of the 6.

Spiggy's hat: Country Life - The Bolshoi
Burning 'cross the breeze.

...and they were added in the order they were mentioned in this thread. If any of the songs are the incorrect version or whatever, feel free to change it or write me and I'll do it.

Nice work. :notworthy:

"Goodnight (Good Riddance)" starts at 14:12 in the track "Edward Lay Bare" from Blyth Power's On The Viking Station. It's a hidden track on the CD...after the silence at the end of ELB so doesn't appear as a separate track on Spotify.

I guess likewise that on any given day I'd pick a different top 5, so here's the 5 most played on Spotify last year for me:

1. The Gun Club - Sex Beat
2. Kleenex - Night Toad
3. Blood and Roses - Necromantra
4. The Dark - The Masque
5. Ausgang - Head On

Added bonus is that you'll definitely find these on Spotify!
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

With the standard "any given day" dusclaimer:
1) into my arms - Nick Cave
2) Tears - The Chameleons
3) Hurt - any version really- original, Johnny Cash, even the Julianne Regan version
4) Away - The Bolshoi (mainly for memories of dancing with a certain QB/BB)
5) Just Like Heaven - The Cure (seriously how good is this song? You hear it so much in clubs etc that you grow used to it but by gum it's good)
