Tube Chaos In London

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Can't be a dirty bomb - those are probably forensics tents for, er, bodies.

Let's just hope everyone we know checks in. Damn it, livejournal is the slowest medium yet, 'cos I only know some mates through that.

We've had London radio broadcasting non-stop since it's started. The eye-witness reports are coming in thick and fast.

Bomb the tubes. Shut the network. Force everyone unto the buses. Bomb the buses. Horrendous.

The double-decker in Russell Square was packed. The entire upper deck was ripped off. Seeing the pictures I don't think anyone on the upper deck would have survived.

God this is awful. Dad and 2 brothers-in-law somewhere in London but I can't reach them. I'm sure they are ok but there is still a bit of panic in the back of my mind.

Glad I checked on here to see you lot are ok - keep us posted

The BBC's now saying that police believe that there have been 7 explosions as opposed to the previous 6. Tony Blair's just made a statement in which he pretty much confirmed that these are terrorist attacks and has said that he's heading to Downing Street in the next couple of hours, but returning to the G8 this evening (all being well). Also, the BBC have said that they've found a statement from Al-Q'aeda's European branch claiming responsibility, although they aren't sure yet as to whether it's legitimate.

I feel cr*p for saying that now :| - the casualty figures are getting worse and worse, especially based on eyewitness accounts. It all sounds very calculated to cause maximum casualties - people are relatively hard to kill on underground trains, very easy to kill on buses...

The calm after the storm. Things seem to be quite now. Seeing some of the images and hearing the eye-witness accounts it's truly horrendous. People were only trying to get to work. Those poor innocents.

Police confirming at least 20 dead and 125 injured, though the injured figure is expected to rise.

Just heard a report that Police have shot dead a suicide bomber in the Canary Wharf area. It's not in the media yet but coming from a source within the Court Service ...

Heard that on another forum, but it was attributed to an msn rumour. I guess coming from within the Court Service then it's fairly reliable.

The popular holiday island resort of Bali is part of Indonesia. Shortly after the "Bali bombing", in which a backpacker nightspot was blown to smithereens, I was in a casino and got chatting to an Indonesian gambler.

He spoke of the statistics and casualty reports and said of those people categorized as missing: "There are no 'missing', missing means dead."

This comment is not intended as unfeeling towards Londoners right now. Far from it. I know a girl who works for Qantas Airways who lost her husband in that Bali bombing.

It's just that sometimes you can't take media reports as 'gospel' during frantic times of chaos and disorganization. The latest reports (here, anyway) suggest that people are still trapped underground, inside trains, hours after the bombs.

Naive question time: what has the bombing got to do with starvation in Africa and/or G8? Why would G8 meetings trigger bombings down south in London? It would seem more likely to me to be timed to catch London with its guard down during the euphoria of the Olympics statement.

Anyway, solidarity with my friends in London right now :)
