A Merciful Release - 26/02/07

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

A three cd box full of demos d be perfect, the two songs they choose for the reissues were already a perfect choice, plenty of stuff left there

Seconded !

But i'm a realist... and hence my money is on SGWBM and Overbombing as remastered plus -indeed- one CD right out of the archives (with I hope some stuff that hasn't seen the light of day yet, i.e. please not the known WEA mixes).

Don't believe in the previous 3 remasters (F&L&A, FL and VT) boxset; true, they'll reach a bigger audience like that, but that would have come out
(a) before christmas for the tree value and
(b) anyway sooner than the feb 07 release date (how hard is it to put a cardboard box around 3 cd's, right?

How's that for Logic?

I doubt we'll get Overbombing remastered. In fact, I think we may have seen the last of that comp, as there's just too many repeated tracks on it, especially so now that the LPs with the bonuses are out.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

As with everything, how much do we read into the title? Is A Merciful Release a statement as well as a title? An epitaph? A closing of one (tedious) chapter?

Or just a nice reference to the artwork of the early material (like "rise and reverberate" or "for spiggy" would have been)?

Simmer down people. Don't forget, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to.

Its not got a copy of Floodland listed, but the other 2 re-issues are on sale. Also claims to have ASCOO to be on order, implying that its not deleted. I agree with MH that its a pretty redundant release now though, and would be surprised to see it in the box.

I love Fopp. The only high street chain left that seems to have any interest in what its selling and how they present it.

Of course it's a mistake. Read the writeup, it's all about Floodland.

Just think good vibes and this will happen. It's not WEA, and Rhino seem to be genuinely interested in presenting the back catalogue. This will happen, and it will be good.

It's true that Rhino is one of the best and most competent reissue labels there is. Let's not get carried away though or we might be very disappointed. :|

just remember the joy that Never Land (full length) turned out to be, as Michael says "no more negative waves man"
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".

Aye aye.

Here's my prediction again:

SGWBM
ASCOOB Redux
3rd disk of goodies

Nothing else makes even the remotest bit of sense, and despite the apparent lack of decent QA with the recent reissues (skipping, volume levels) there is both a will and a way to make this happen. :D

In fact, if the w14music thing works out, 2007 could well be the year of the Sisters.

Wasn't there some dispute between :von: and the BBC over that very point? Hence the fact they've never been officially released?

When band do a session for the BBC there is a whole thing about copyright. I think Eldritch was quoted as saying that he couldn't be arsed sitting around the studio fixing that stuff up.
