Who is the singer in the Sisters of Mercy

For you to give feedback to the Heartland moderators. Wish lists, fault reports, etc. You may get an answer, you may not. As in all things, it largely depends on how nicely you ask the people in charge... You're welcome.

...could be a very good question that any potential user has to answer before they can complete their forum registration. Would probably stop most spammers who are just using scripts from even registering, let alone posting? And surely easy enough for even the newest fan to answer.

(Apparently, even some real-life humans don't know the answer! Shocking, I know...)

See thread below on forcing users to correctly answers questions on phpBB before being registered:

For sure. On an old Cure forum we had a similar question to ask who the bass player was (bit less obvious than Smith) & it totally worked
Cheers.

On another forum I go on, adding a very simple question kept the spammers at bay for a good 6 months before they learnt the answer.

gah, that old chestnut

yeah that sort of questions would be great, if there were a phpbb2 version

this forum runs a customised version off phpbb2 and in order to upgrade it to phpbb3 there's a few things we'd lose. these include (but are not limited to):

- all the current themes
- image gallery integration
- everyone's birthday

upgrading would also add a slew of new features to the user control panels, some of which are nice but some of which (IMHO) overly complicate things

but it is creaking a little isn't it? an upgrade would probably be useful from a speed and security perspective
