Show Me

Got any interesting thoughts on a set of lyrics? Any that don't involve the word "indeed"? Find yourself struggling to decipher all those obtuse references Von makes? Read "1959 And All That" and still no clearer? Nope, us neither. Postcards found lying in a skip around the back of the Chemists can be found here... Don't say you weren't warned.

Is that hook line "show me on the doll"? Very Von.

Is Show me the full title?
Von actually introduced the song as "Show Me On The Doll" last night.
Cheers.

The video is really not loud enough. I think at the end it's

Show me on the ground. ... 2x

Still think it's 'doll' - little less clear at the end but definitely sounds like doll to me for the main part of the song.

And 'show me on the doll' is a fairly well known phrase now!

"doll" is also possible, would be a more sarcastic choice ... and for sure not untypical ... but maybe it's just "door", sufficient anyway.

Which sounds silly since we're still speculating the words. Off to bed it is.

It sounds a little to me like he could be saying

"show me on the double"

But, it does also sound like "Show me on the doll". Which is a f**king dark lyric.

Not by me it isn't! What does it mean? Doll as in lady, doll as in inflatable lady, or doll as in Stretch Armstrong?

Basically, victims of abuse, usually young children who can't talk about it, are given a doll and asked to 'show me on the doll where you were touched'

Jeeeezuz, wish I'd never asked. Thank you for explaining Charlie, but tbh I'm sorry for asking now. If that's the lyric, then it may well be the archest lyric he's written / sung to date, especially when there's a concert hall full of folk singing along. Wow.

Oh yes! Now I see it. You are perfectly right! ... ;D :notworthy: :notworthy: ... *oh my ...  ...

In therapy it is quite common even, not only for sexual child abuse, but with adults as well
... to get clear about relations for example. A standard tool, actually.

Now, I'm fully astonished ... and pleased. Relieved even. A real Sisters song ... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ... and clearly not necessarily sarcastic.

Dark, yes, but the point of a doll in that case is to be able to communicate a concept that the child doesn’t have the vocabulary to translate into symbolic language.

All languages that humans have ever created are insufficient, imo, and likely responsible for our conformity to the lowest common denominator. But that’s a whole tangent...

If we’re trying to put words to abstract concepts that can’t be expressed in a limited, confined language, then the doll seems to be this body that’s likewise stuck and confined by what little we can understand of reality, time, space, etc.

(I could be biased by detachment tendencies... Going through the motions, putting on the power suit, saying what’s needed feels like playing dolls. 😄)

Roundhouse version is good. I think I got it all, but I’ll reserve the bits I may be wrong about. Guess I could be wrong about the parts I’m fairly sure about, too, of course..

Isolation...disintegration... do those songs count as pop music? 🤔

Over az Poison Door, the Krautian forum, a frantic listening-teamwork brought up this:

Show me isolation
Show disintegration
Show me reality
Show me show me word for me
Show me pop music
Barmy Rock'n'Roll
Show me incantations
Show me on the doll

(Elevating, never fading)

Love like love, like…
Love like love
Incinerating

Show me isolation
Show me (deep innovation)
Show me your reality
Show me if possible (?)
Show me pop music
Show me barmy Rock'n'Roll
Show me incantation
Show me on the doll

Love like love

Show me isolation
Show me degeneration
Show me your reality
Show me if possible (?)
Show me pop music
Show me barmy Rock'n'Roll
Show me translation
Show me on the doll

Show me on the doll

Source was the Antwerp video. No claim of completeness, but it sounds pretty good to me.
…and what a sweet song it is. I love it.

Show me barmy Rock'n'Roll

It does sound like barmy, but the first time i heard it, it sounded like 'barbie' and i still can't get that out of my head - anyone else hear barbie or just me?!

Also here:
Love like love
Love like love
Incinerating

Last word sounds like 'assimilated' to me?

Ahem, certain listeners actually thought that possibly perhaps "Bob Marley" might make sense there, which alegedly lead to some amusement with others… :innocent:
