COVID-19 coronavirus

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Best wishes for a fast recovery to Geoff (and whoever else might have caught it) ... :) ... I really keep my fingers crossed for everyone to survive it !!!

Fortunately, I could avoid the virus so far, but after having spent two weeks almost all the time at home in my not exactly large flat,
I went for a long (3hrs) walk outside alone today. Oh, fresh air ... it's really not necessary to get near to anyone with an MP3 player at hand.

Yesterday, I sat for an hour in my car for a change ... just to see something different from always the same walls
and always the same treadmills on the internet ... *sigh ...with the radio on or listening to the recent recordings
from the UK gigs and with a nice mug of coffee or tea from home, that can be quite entertaining... ;D ...

My mum works in hospital where infection has came from outside by medical staff (due to poor personel - thanks to decades of wrong policy of ALL govs - most nurses and MDs are working in at least 2 medical facilities); worst, she had direct contact with one of infected, plus, all nurses had one, not so large, changing room for all nurses in building. She's waiting to get tested.

Meanwhile, to not go haywire yesterday my wife and kid started to meditate and did some proper 40+ minutes excercises session.

There is a chance that my day job will be shortened, that's bad for pocket, but I if that a price for keeping this dayily job, I'm fine, plus, I'll get extra time (which I out right now), to spaned it on learning to change profession.

Thank you for your good wishes, everyone.

I got rid of the blasted thing - it took two weeks for the symptoms to clear up.

I've spent the last two weeks broadcasting English lessons from my living room to my students. The teacher part isn't so bad, but everything else is done by e-mail - and that's taking an age.

I've ordered a bottle of foursquare rum to get me through Easter. It should turn up mid-week.

Politics aside. These people are the scum of the earth to say such a wicked thing about someone who is in ICU. I think Boris and his team are doing an amazing job in the recent crisis. My partners son's GF Eleanor will be upset, she worked for Boris in the election campaign. :(

Really? Lying about the ventilators, lying about "herd immunity", lying about how many tests, lying about PPE, I could go on...

Have no love for Boris or the Tories but I hope he recovers. Wishing him or anyone else's death is just horrible. I hope we're all mature enough to realise that around here at least.

I really don't care if you're Tory, Labour, Liberal or raving looney party. This is a life here who's in intensive care!

I hear Michael Gove is now self isolating too as a family member may be infected. It will be interesting to see who now becomes the rational, sober face of the UK Government as and when required for the next week or so.

I've been reading his tweets, and frankly the rational, sober face of HMG looks like this:

Agreed - to wish anyone dead is wrong.

But am I alone? Did anyone else who has been following government advice about self-isolating, who has been assiduous about implementing precautions against becoming infected, not award themselves a little inner hug when they read the news? Did anyone else think, "Well, since these fuckers have been screwing the NHS for years, let's see how they feel when the boot's on the other foot"?
On a human level I hope that that mop-headed, simpering, Windrush-generation-fucking pocket-lining feather-bedding philandering crony-ist sack of shit recovers, if only for the sake of his children (if only he knew how many he had). But I'll admit to human frailty and to thinking that if he doesn't, or if as a result of his illness he needs to to retire from politics, Britain might not be worse off for it.

I really hope Boris Johnson makes a full recovery in hospital but while he’s there I also hope he gains some perspective on the damage his party has done to the exact staff working endlessly to look after him.

There's a bad part of me that says "karma's a bitch", and the same bad part is also fully convinced that the initial reaction by certain political leaders was down to a perception that this was a "poor people's disease", and therefore it was OK to do nothing, and that it was only when it became clear that it wasn't a "poor people's disease" that action was taken.

At the same time, I wouldn't wish death on Boris, nor even on Trump. A good slap about the head and the full horrible realisation of what they have done here, that'll do.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Original comment referred to the recent habit of Gove being wheeled out whenever they have an important message to get across. The HMG PR machine seems to reserve his gentle Scottish tones for such occasions when a sense of trust is required.

thanks for asking. I gather he's on the mend, and is doing much better (relatively speaking - it's a slow process)
