Hi all,

On the official Sisters siste, there's a beautiful Les Paul Special previously owned by "Smokie."

Does anyone know who Smokie is? Is it Von's alter ego? A band? Lemmy? Who?

Also, if anyone has a spare, can they mail it to me?

Smokie is an old band with waning popularity, incessantly touring smaller venues, churning out the same old songs year after year. ;)

They had a huge hit with "Living Next Door to Alice" in 1976. A staple among second-rate pub bands and troubadours with attitude problems and poor impulse control.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm new to the site but a longtime fan. Seeing so many fans in one place with so much info warms the cockles of my ... 'Nuff said.

You wouldn't happen to know about the Tele, then, on the same page? A gift from Tim B. to Von? It wouldnt/couldn't/shouldn't? be Tim Buckley?

Prolly Tim Bricheno, after all.

Thanks,

g

UTR X (May 1994) goes into a bit more detail on this one:

"Fender Telecaster, mustard: Again inherited from Tim [Bricheno], although I don't like telecasters. They sound too tinny for my taste, and I don't like the look of them at all. They're uncomfortable on the lap, as the bodies don't have chamfered edges like the stratocaster, which is much easier on the thigh and forearm. Moreover, there is nothing to be said for a mustard-colour guitar. Yet another example of guitar players deciding that they don't after all like what they've bought with your money. Thanks Tim."
