Looking at the structure of the song (not the lyrics but the layout), I'm thinking this could be a slow song.

It looks like "I was wrong" - wheather it sounds anything like it (tempo wise) of course is a whole other thing, I know but that's what I'm getting from it.

I'm trying to imagine it with fast guitars and I'm not getting it.

I could be WRONG though It wasn't me...

If I turn out to be wrong, I will say I was wrong

I was wrong to ever doubt
I can get along without
I can love my fellow man
But I'm damned if I'll love yours

This is about the Iraq war, isn't it? The "red tops" being the British tabloids; and the "decent men and women" being the "Decent Left" (i.e. pro-war, pro-Israel) as parodied here.

So has this ever been played live yet?

Just read that it is one of Chris favorite songs to play live, and I think I have completly missed it (if it has indeed been played live).
If it has not does that mean that theu are rehearsing it now, and we will hear it in november?

So,

Quote:
Was the single 'Under the Gun' a deliberate final statement on that phase of your career? Looking back, it seems like after your astonishing monologue in the second half of that song, there's little left to be said and nowhere else to go.

AE: Pop Will Eat Itself? You may be right. Andrew recently wrote 'Far Parade', which is even more absolutely Milan. We think his problem is that he no longer finds it fun to rail against American politics, because American politics are no longer important, what with America about to be the Chinese slaveland and all. Watch this space. Mr Eldritch was studying Mandarin Chinese before he started singing for this band.

"...which is even more absolutely Milan."

Interesting that he invokes Prospero there, cf.:
"To have no screen between this part he play'd
And him he play'd it for, he needs will be
Absolute Milan. " (The Tempest, I.ii - 209-211)

The Tempest famously being Shakespeare's last play, and the one which ends with:
"Now my charms are all o'erthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint: now, 'tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
Since I have my dukedom got
And pardon'd the deceiver, dwell
In this bare island by your spell;
But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon'd be,
Let your indulgence set me free."

Hmm.

His last surviving play. That he wrote alone. Maybe.

The lost play Cardenio, if Shakespeare actually wrote it (alone or in collaboration with john Fletcher) is usually dated later than The Tempest.

Henry VIII and The Two Noble Kinsmen, both generally accepted to have been collaborations with Fletcher, are also widely thought to be later.

And the dating of The Tempest (and a lot of Shakespeare's other plays) involves a lot of assumption, with scholars agreeing that it's impossible to say with any certainty whether it was written before or after The Winter's Tale and/or Cymbeline.
