Well, I'm off on my hollybobs tomorrow so I singularly fail to volunteer

I've downloaded the tar from the sourceforge project and am busy working through the documentation. Mark has also sent me the login details for the current Wiki, which I'll have a go at just now. I'm totally new to this wiki stuff so any help is welcome.

Right now I'm just gonna use my current website until we've got something stable running, then I'll see about a domain name.
I'm also absolutely crap at design so any submissions on that front would be great.

I don't know, but I'd guess that the software has the default wikipedia style built in. So that'll do for now.

It's a pain, but like I said before, the site we've been using doesn't use quite the same markup as "standard" wiki. This link shows the standard markup format; it's fairly easy (about as easy as bulletin board markup).

I'm copying the pages across one by one and correcting the markup to the standard wiki format. I've satrted at the top of the alphabetical list and I'm working down.

NB: I don't think it's a good idea to put the lyrics in for copyright reasons.

I don't mind playing with the CSS to make it look pretty. PM me any details I need to edit the CSS (or if I need full FTP access to change the CSS then I'll just put a stylesheet together locally and send it to Hal to upload).

The wiki package seems to come with a few skins and you can select one once you've made an account. A personalised default skin would be lovely though.

I found some documentation here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Skins_Hacks but it's german.

Made a few of you sysops. Congrats to:

# Dancingmeerkat (sysop)
# Lazarus corporation (sysop)
# Lucien (bureaucrat,sysop)
# Quiff Boy (sysop)

That should keep things rolling.
sysop

This is the most common user. A user marked as 'sysop' can delete and undelete pages, block and unblock IPs, issue read-only SQL queries to the database, and use a shortcut revert-to-previous-contributor's-revision feature in contribs.

I was just wondering what's going to be done in the song section if lyrics can't be posted. Is it going to give info about what the songs could be about, like in 1959 And All That, or is it going to be left blank?

Do what you want, so long as it's useful, truthful and not copyrighted to somewhere else.

Say what you want, I don't think Von'll care if I've written the SSV lyrics.

Also, why would merely writing the lyrics be a breach of copyright? :?:

for example:

http://www.thesistersofmercy.com/lyrics/afterh.htm
© 1984. Words by Andrew Eldritch, Music by Andrew Eldritch.
Lyrics reproduced by kind permission of Polygram/Island. All rights reserved.
Available on a single which is ... no longer available.
the bits:
a) © 1984
b) Lyrics reproduced by kind permission of Polygram/Island
c) All rights reserved

would suggest that:
a) they are protected under copyright law
b) you dont have permission (kind or not) to reproduce them
c) they will come after you if they find you

;)

I'm having fun here with capitalisation. :urff:
http://www.sisters.co.za/wiki/index.php ... and_Always is not the same as http://www.sisters.co.za/wiki/index.php ... And_Always so a seemingly infinite number of redirects is necessary for the non-standard capitalisation.

Oh well.

It's not that big a deal, as long as people remember to look for an article with different capitalisation before creating a new one (otherwise we get duplicated content).

It's just that a lot of redirects might be needed.

read this
go here
The preferred formats are JPEG for photographic images, PNG for drawings and other iconic images, and OGG for sounds. Please name your files descriptively to avoid confusion. To include the image in a page, use a link in the form [[Image:file.jpg]] or [[Image:file.png|alt text]] or [[Media:file.ogg]] for sounds.
Ignore the part about OGG files. I'm not allowing any audio or video.
