why was the american tour with public enemy aborted?

Unknown songs and demos, who wrote what, who sang what, the usual biographies, discography gubbins, photos of Eldritch with no sunglasses, etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda....

They thought there would be clashes between the Sisters fans (mostly white) and Public Enemy fans (mostly black).

surely that should read: Sisters fans (black) and Public Enema fans (black)?! :D

I thought it was cos the promoters got cold feet and didn't, err, promote it, so few advance tickets were sold and the venues pulled the plug?

maybe...
Is this the place I used to know as Fatherland?

i'm sure there's something in one of the UTR issues that says something along the lines of deadagain's answer.

nowt to do with fights, more to do with bad promotion and ticket sales.

Having a crap US record label who didn't support it, the promoter's booked suburban or out of town venues (as far away from the "ghetto's" as they could get), and just a complete lack of promotion anywhere!

Andy doesn't like to admit it, but one of the major factors was that the first Lollapalooza tour was beating the pants of his 'Gathering of the Tribes'. Not only were there booking problems (less widespread than he claims), the tour was flat-out *losing money.* If you've seen the Florida 91 bootleg video, the venue only looks about half full. Furthermore, neither Young Black Teenagers (who were, curiously, all white) nor Warrior Soul were teribly good bands--hence, the only draw would have been the Sisters and PE. Compare that to the lin-up on the first Lollapalooza, and it's no surprise, really.

"Gathering of the Tribes" was Ian Astbury's project... It had nothing to do with the Sisters + PE tour!

If you ever go to see Public Enermy, you'd notice that the crowd is mainly white

a mate of mine went to see run dmc back in about 86. said mate is 6ft 3 and had spikey black hair, leather trousers and pointy boots.

he said he was down the front, bopping away and getting all giddy to "my adidas" when he stopped, looked around, and realised he was the only white person there

i'd always assumed PE's politics and their semi-militant stance would scare most skinny white boys away :?:

Me too actually.

And I think Elektra thought so too; that's why they didn't promote the tour properly. (See Big Si's post above)

more a Paul Hardcastle reference, I think.

In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war,
but it wasn't.
It was different in many ways, as so were those that did the fighting.
In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26...
In Vietnam he was...

Most of the times I've seen the mighty P.E. over the last 14 years, the crowd's been about 50/50 white/black. Not that it matters a tinker's cuss.
