Does piracy annoy you ??

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hi people, Merry Christmas to everyone. I could also make some comment about the hope of 2007 bringing some new TSOM related 'product', but that would be rather silly I suppose.. ??

Anyway, to move away from festive matters I would like to ask a favour .. does anyone know of someone who has been affected by music / CD / DVD piracy ??

To cut a long story short a friend of mine who works for Trading Standards is currently looking to take some action against a group of 'pirates' who peddle counterfeit CDs & DVDs. We're not talking a few odd copies here, these are people who have set up a cottage industry operation, knocking out 1000s of fake copies around markets & car boots.

What he basically requires is a few words from someone 'in the trade'
about the ways in which music piracy has caused them 'harm or distress'
- in plain language how the activities of music pirates costs them money or affects their job security etc. This would add a new aspect to his endeavours, as he can make a direct link to the ways in which piracy hurts people who work in the industry.

This could be someone in a band, a session player, a producer, someone in A&R, a studio owner.. basically anyone with a job or connection to the music biz who's willing to go on record to say 'pirates are bad people & cost me money', or something to that effect. Someone from the
UK East Midlands or nearby would be a bonus, but that's not essential.

In return there will probably be some publicity, as the local press here usually cover piracy cases with gusto. The Trading Standards people in Derby have a good relationship with local media, so in return for a few suitable words I'm sure they could encourage the press to make heavy mention of any band / music biz people who are anti-piracy supporters.
Anyway, by all means chew this over & if anyone can help please let me know. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.

Regards

Ian Terry

Does piracy annoy me?

ARRRRRHHHH! ;D

Now, since I am just a semi-pro musician, I find that all illegal copies of my demo CDs contribute to the promotion of my band...

I will talk with you again when I am a Platinum Seller

Just for the record, but maybe it is adviseable to edit your email address in the above post and work with "AT" and "DOT" and so on.

HeartLand gets buggered a lot by spambots of late, and your email addy might get sucked in by their big jaws eventually ;)

I wish my bands were being pirated. I'll shake the hand of the first person to make a bootleg live recording.

Do I HAVE to point out the flaw in your statement or are you going to do it yourself? ;)

captain pugwash was cool..and of course anything "treasure island related" (apart from one-legged long-johns; talking parrots who don't say "excuse me mrs woman, but do you take it up the shitter"; taking the black spot to blind pugh; and bitter one-time guitarists who barely scraped into the also-ran list of SGWBM but who think that gives them the right to threaten MY friends -in a cowardly while-the-teachers-not-looking kind of way.)

It's those camp folded-down boots and hooks-for-hands that get me. And the sails always have holes in them.

Don't you have to play live to get bootlegged!

If you play down south i'll do it for you!

I got bootlegged. Unfortunately dad's phone can only do 7 seconds of video / 30 seconds of audio at a time and, as lovely as they are, the school's emo populace were neither interested nor suitably equipped :P
