Unknown songs and demos, who wrote what, who sang what, the usual biographies, discography gubbins, photos of Eldritch with no sunglasses, etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Birmingham? I'm sure Von introduces him onstage with something like "this is Wayne, he's our new guitarist ...he's great." :innocent:

Ok, maybe I am anorak enough ...

Just listened. He deffo plays on 07 April 1984, Tin Can Ballroom, Birmingham. During the tune-up to Walkaway he throws some typical Hussey riffs to which Von responds " ...this is Wayne! ... he's very good ..."

Also my understanding. Early 84 gigs didn't have a tour name until Black October kicked in, methinks.

According to www.darkalice.de there's a bootleg LP called "Razor Shock", on "Clesorecords" from that Tin Can gig at Birmingham, which was the first public gig with Wayne and the first performances of Walk Away, Body And Soul and Train.

Yep, Birmingham 7.4.84.
I always thought the gig was at 'Birmingham Fantasy Club', then someone told me that Fantasy Club was a part of Tin Can.

Also interesting to note is that I was told the previous 2 gigs (29 & 31.10.83) were played as a 3-piece without Ben Gunn, him having played his last gig in Stockholm 26.10.83. Can anyone confirm?

On the Stockholm '83 recording Eldritch says "We have a new guitarist but he couldn't be with us tonight, so the next time you see us we'll be four people" (off the top of my head).

Interesting, I'd not read that before. I guess that casts some doubt about the date of the Stockholm tape then.
I personally think such items as a complete New York 13-4-84 tape and the Stuttgart Maxim 12-11-84 video are harder to find.
Does that mean someone has a complete New York 13-4-84? As far as I know all people have are 3 songs.

I got this from an acquaintance of mine who had been trading with the original taper (and Clif got it from a guy I sent it to), and who presented me with it, saying "You might like this. Most people don't even know they played there at that time". Also, members of the audience are mocking Eldritch's appearance in Swedish - "Hehe...Läderlappen..." (Swedish for Batman), which would be rather weird for a gig outside of Sweden.

In short, I'd go with Clif's saying it's a November date, in Stockholm.

Does not the fact that three songs were taped suggest the entire gig was taped? I can't quite get my head around someone only taping three songs.

Unless it was all taped and one of those unfortunate tape accidents happened and the rest of the set was destroyed?

But in either scenario you would have thought it would have been common knowledge by now from whoever initially released the three songs into circulation?

a) I have the complete gig and I'm only releasing three songs. And jerking off as I listen to the rest.
b) I only taped three songs because I'm an idiot.
c) Yes I taped the entire gig but the rest of the set was lost/destroyed/chewed up shortly afterwards.

Of course I meant "in circulation". Obviously they taped it all. What I emant was I've never even heard a rumour of anyone knowing anyone who has a full version of this.
The reason there's so few songs circulating is because 2 songs were released on a bootleg single, then much later another song turned up on a cassette compilation made by the owner of a certain basement shop in Leeds. The date & venue wasn't mentioned on the tape but I when I asked I was told it was N.Y. (I only have his word that it was from N.Y., but he knew his stuff). I probably asked if he had the full gig and probably got an enigmatic reply, I can't remember.

And going back to that webpage that says they doubt the date of the Stockholm tape on the basis that Eldo mentions the new guitarist isn't with them yet, but says nothing at the U.S. gigs a few days later. It's more likely that if the Stockholm gig was a small gig attended by many close friends and fanclub members, that Eldo felt the need to tell them this information, whereas he didn't think it worth bothering telling the people at the U.S. gigs.

andy r. told me one time it was a freebie paid for by the record company, or some such i forget now. will search my archives

a fanzine interview still has Ben being in the band in Europe, then states as a postscript that Ben had left at the end of the September US tour and they only had a couple of West coast dates to go.

So possibly, east coast tour - record company stockholm gig - back out to west coast?

where is the good doctor btw :( :notworthy: :notworthy:

Long time ago I come across with the Germany guy that got the full length tape (he was a maker of the Acid Rain lp) but no chance to get a copy. Now the tape is still in Germany in some warehouse below a wine box. the sister ray 7 inch come from same land & source tape
