Favourite Sisters Era?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

From the Recommended Gigs thread
Quiff Boy wrote:for me they tend to fall into 5 categories (basically, by era):

84-85
90-97

so, what is your favourite Sisters era?

I went for 1990-1997. I really like the early 90's sound, especially Possession :notworthy:

I voted for 81-83, although 84-85 cranked out some great tunes, I think the first era was the best (BE, Anaconda)

Why no Sisterhood/Floodland era ? (wouldn't be my favourite anyway, but still) :?:

IIRC, Quiff was talking about live shows only, not the Girls in general.

If you'd be splitting it up between live and album it'd be easier

84-85 for live
Reptile House for overall sound on recorded stuff..

Will decide after having slept it over

They were never quite the same after the bummer from Dead or Alive joined them.

I have voted for the current era, because I really like the guitar play of Ben & Chris together. They bring so much life and improvisation into the sisters-sound.
btw I love all stuff of them besides "Home of the Hitmen" and "Damage Done"

90 - 97?

90-91, 92-93 & 96+ are all pretty different if you ask me. Major line-up changes and getting rid of a live bass player definitely marked the end of an era. And 93 was the end of the Sissies as a band who actually did stuff apart from the occasional tour...
Tour Thing does it for me every time, best line-up, best sets and some absolutely stunning shows that have been pretty much untouchable since.

Never really considered different Sisters era's. They just evolve and it's all good.

I voted FALAA era. But pre that was great. Never seen a pre 2006 sisters show so I wouldn't know
I might vote 2003-current when I've heard the new album.

um...well ok then..I'll stick with 84-85

Voted 81-83, although 86-89 is definitely my favourite in terms of sound, style, and the massive progression they made then.

2006-whenever seems good so far, especially as the new boys took next to no time to start expressing themselves and putting their own signature on the Sisters sound. The fairly grim + po-faced Pearson years are thankfully over, and the Sisters are - dare I say it - fun again.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Oh crap, my vote goes to 2003-current. It generally is the kind of question I can't give a straight answer to, but I like this era just because it is now and it's exciting. 8)
If you want a more elaborate answer, wot Herr Blast sez : 81-06 (and beyond). ;D
